It's been mentioned in a few threads but not as a thread starter - so, I'm starting. John may entertain questions. It's also a Madisound kit which is especially nice.

In my opinion, this is the only case of heavy handed moderating I've encountered on this wonderful forum.

Sorry but I don't understand - what heavy handed moderating are you referring to?

I'm sure John will still read threads. He's an addict like us all :-) Whether he gets any value from some of the stuff discussed, and whether he offers his opinions / advice is another matter. He will participate via inferences you'll read in his blog. I don't think any moderator heavy handedness has anything to do with it.
Anyway - back on topic.... I'm glad to see John launch both 2 way and 2.5 way designs using quality drivers. I think there are 3 classes of DIYers.. Those who love building stuff all the time but can only afford the low end stuff. Those who want to only build one set of speakers every year or 2 and go for higher quality and cost designs, then there are the nutters..... I look forward to people's impressions of his new ZRT designs. At least if I get completely frustrated at my 3-way design failure... I''ve now got a 2.5 way scanspeak design I can build David. |

I won't say... otherwise people might follow him there and we lose another place where we can get his advice :-)

I'm probably lucky that the ZDT3 design came out before this one, or I'd probably be a lot poorer. I agree Dave, it is nice to see both 2 and 2.5 way designs. Options are always nice.

I bet these speakers have killer sound. "revelators" are amazing woofers.
I'm using them in sealed 1q ft enclosure (2 way) and when I turn up the volume, people who don't even care about audio, notice how great these speakers sound. |

One thing John has mentioned in the past regarding higher quality woofers is their ability to handle dynamics at higher volumes. I must re-read Mark K's site comparing low SPL and high SPL harmonic distortion comparisons between the better scanspeaks and other woofers.

I would really like to see this woofer paired to a good ribbon in a tower design. Maybe some day..
