Replacement for HD3P Tweeter

I've been using the KLS11 design since 2002 and unfortunately the Audax HD3P tweeters are on their last legs. Has anyone here done a successful replacement of the HD3P and if so was any dramatic alteration to the xover necessary?

Hi Phibes, why last legs, Ive had mine for longer and they are fine?
Do they eventually fail or have they been abused?

Hi Arthur,

Certainly no abuse but the gold domes are starting to crinkle badly and I don't think they sound as good as they did when they were new. Otherwise the design sounds fine and the other Aerogel drivers are in excellent condition. I just feel it is inevitable that they will need to be replaced and I wondered if any one here had already done so.

Dear All,

The reason for the damage to the diaphram is that the gap behind the dome deteriorates over time leading to the distorted shape. If the tweeter still works dont worry.

You cannot repair or replace the dome or even the whole tweeter.

Go for a ribbon instead and look at Jaycar as they have taken on some new ribbons.

Also go to the HiFi World site for the info and options you can try. They are aware of the problem and are able to help people with these tweeters.
