Default The 'Perfect' Box

Hi all,

As some of you probably know by my constant threads I'm in the process of building my first set of speakers so I will probably ask a fair few 'dumb' questions before I can actually contribute to the forum in a helpful way!

Anyhoo, With the following parts and criteria, what enclosure would be suitable

- First box and beginner woodwork skills though I have quite a few tools to use.

- I enjoy clear acoustic and vocal music... I love flamenco guitar.

- Drivers are P13WH-00-08 and D26TG tweeter

- Would prefer mid bookshelf size on stands and will be located in open plan lounge room with a listening distance about 3 metres away

Thanks in advance

Thanks, I read so much about those drivers (p13's) I had to quickly snatch them up before they disappeared!

Hi
I would try building the Wilson Watt clones. There is a web site giving details of them and also a number of comments on this site. I have been using speakers based upon this design for years and have enjoyed the clean presentation this design provides. I would build the cabinet as rigid as possible to minimise distortion in the mid range.

On the topic of rigidity, where, in Melbourne (Australia) would I find some thick MDF - Bunnings goes up to 16mm but I assume the thicker the better? Any locals know? cheers!

Mitre10 sells 18mm MDF.

And this this what I think the best box for P13WH ... don't imprison it

Click the image to open in full size.

Gotta love 'em.. running well with no crossover!

... and if you still want a box have a look at esquire etc.

I am also building a Pluto and will see how P13WH performs on it!

That looks fantastic! However, for my lounge room I think those Esquire speakers would fit perfectly. Next project - my study - I think I might have to hassle you for your design
