12" woofer advice
Which 12" woofers would be best for a 60-70 liter BR enclosure in a (active) 3 way speakersystem?
I'm thinking of:
Alcone AC12SW-8 (bit afreight 300 Hz is too high for this one)
The mid is a 5" focal Kevlar unit (91 dB/w) which should take over around 300 Hz. The bass amp wil be a 50 watt Plinius, so the efficiency of the unit should be good (> 89 dB/w).
What are the pros and cons of these units. What units should I also consider?
Hey, Duck-Twacy, try this link and have some fun building your sub!
Good Luck,
Thanks for that link.
Btw it is for a 3 way system, not a sub. It should be capable to do 30-300 Hz (at least).
This one looks very interresting
Probably a bit expensive...
I requensted the prices of the FlexUnits (you can buy them directly from the manufacterer)
Here the prices for the default units (a piece, in euro):
12" 424 (77 mm v.c. 170*24 mm magnet)
15" 585 (102 mm v.c. 220*22 mm magnet)
You can choose another size for the voice coil and magnet,
e.g a 12" with a 102 mm v.c. and 200*24mm magnet costs €480.
3 - 10 15%
11 - 50 20%
I think the cost is reasonable compared to the Focal Audiom range.
With these speakers you can chose the T?S parameters yourself!
Re: 12" woofer advice
The Lambda TD series is a great
driver for your application, you might
even consider the TD15 instead
of the TD12 since the prices are
almost the same (march sale).
$169 for TD12
$179 for TD15
I chose the lowest Q version of TD, so
in my case I bought TD15H.
The LE version is not recommended
for you application.
Thanks for the tip (i'm affraid cost after import to holland wil be $100 or more higher).
Btw anybody any comments on this Hi-Vi M12 unit:
My mail was answered by Per Skaaning, his father Ejvind Skaaning I understood is the founder of Dynaudio and Scan-speak, so I guess the units are the best.
Btw I looked at the Lambda PB12, thats a great driver. It should give 32Hz@-3dB in a 60 liter enclosure. Efficiency is a bit lower (88.6 dB/w). Still very interresting.
Also the Seas W26FX001 looks promissing, it gives an F3 of around 25 HZ in a 90 liter box. Its only 10" ofcourse (and 350 euro a piece).
Chosing a driver is not easy ;)
I like youre TL site.
Btw I have some very old mags with discriptions of some TDLs (Monitor Compact and RSTL). In German I'm affraid (Klang&Ton).
If you're interrested I could try to scan them.
Maybe this site is also usefull http://www.aos-lautsprecher.de/
