Default For Aussies, Have you seen the new JAYCAR catalogue

Dear All,

Went into Jaycar recently and they have just taken on a new range of speaker drive units. They look pretty damned fine and reasonably priced.

4" - 12"
dome tweeters
Planar and ribbons.

Has anybody done anything with them yet?

I am tempted to do something with them.

any comments on the drive units would be welcomed.

regards David

For their ribbons:
search Jaycar foster ribbons.
I took some apart and played with them a bit. not so great. I think Moondog played with them a bit too.

Do they come with freq. response graph?

I thought I've seen them before but could not find it on the web and definitely not in the catalog.

There are a few new tweeters (apart from the old Foster poc), including a couple of new ribbon tweeter. They are all just the HiVi tweeters. I don't have the cat numbers at hand.

There is also a new line of mid price kevlar, yellow, drivers, direct from the HiVi line as sold elsewhere, but not all the HiVi drivers, just some selected ones. Response graphs etc for these come in the box with the driver, and should match the ones on the HiVi web site.
CW2150, cw2152 etc by evens

There is also a line of cheaper poly coated concave mids and woofers, that I suspect may also be made by HiVi.
Cw2190, Cw2192.. etc by even numbers. The Electus web site now has response curves for these driver as pdf.

As for if used yet, well...... cabinet built, but no x-o yet.
I used a different tweeter because Jaycar don't have one with a small faceplate.

Default foster ribbons

they make pretty awesome headphones with a touch of EQ.
A bit heavy though.
driving them with a T-amp. they need about a watt to get going.

Default jaycar woofer

I reckon the 10 inch Hi Vi kevlar unit is pretty good. has decent xmax for a non subwoofer woofer. with shorting rings. It does however have a strange peak at around 500hz which would make x o more complicated
