Default Two questions for magnetar....

One; What do you do with all the extra drivers after you move on to the next system? Do you ever sell them?

Two; Is this the hemp cone you modded witht he candle phase plug?

Thanks.

Hello,

I just sold a bunch of compression drivers, and still have a few left, I also have a nice pair of 15" coaxials I'm thinking of selling as well as some other stuff. What are you looking for?

The lil' buddy eminence is a good sounding driver with the dustcap removed if you're into a warm rounded sound. They aren't very extended on top for a guitar speaker. It's a ten not the driver you pointed to.

I have Nick from the SpeakerShop building some custom 12" midbass drivers right now for my newest speaker project. The driver is based on the old EV SRO 12" with a HUGE Alnico 'coffee can' magnet. It should be a step up from the eminence. I just need to go pick them up and see how they measure up. They are probably the most efficient cone drivers ever made.. SRO 12 With these we are using a different cone and a Flexair surround for better low mid. It's between those and some experimental Field Coil 12's that I've been working with..

The new speakers will use the SRO (or custim field coil 12) and a one inch Emilar compression driver and a new 'Z Frame" dipole bass system (I have been working on this for 15 months!) with a 21" bass driver.

Is this the ask Mike forum?

While you're here, I've got a quick question that maybe you can help me with. I want to hear a 2" exit driver and I've been looking at a variety of off-the-shelf upper mid horns to go with it. I want to try and use the 2" driver just between 800-900hz and 3khz with 4th order XO on each end. The horns I've been looking at are similar to these as an example and I'm liking them because of the fairly short height - I need to keep C2C distances down for the tweeter - and the low cost.

The drivers I've decided on are these from Radian and it's based largely on their cost - this is just an experiment so I don't want to blow alot of cash on them.

Can you recommend a decent off the shelf horn that has some promise of Hi-Fi? Or am I wasting my time? I'm not expecting a miracle, I just want to see about replacing my direct radiator upper mids with a 2" CD.

Thanks for any input - it's much appreciated.

Any horn is going to change the response of the driver compared to the Radian graph. I Think if you want to keep the cost down and get decent sound look for a 90 by 40 radial horn with a 500 HZ or lower flare. Don't bother with a 'CD' or constant directivity horn because you aren't expecting to use it on the top end (although the Radian driver will do it sort of) - A CD horn will require EQ, use a radial because they are linear and cheap- I wouldn't use aluminum cause they ring (all of them) use a composite horn (or heavy wood but there goes the price) and damp it well with Mortite.

What I mean is "Radial" not Bi-Radial - just to clarify - look at the JBL 2350 profile - The older radial horns sounds better than the new 'bi-radial' CD horns in my experience - I'm not sure who makes them still. The P Audio's you pointed at are bi-radial

I found a few pics of the 2350 including a pair on Ebay right now. Thanks for the clarification.

Mostly I was just curious since you must have a ton of stuff. However, I am looking for a 6 to 10 inch full range type type driver to use like you did with the little buddy if you have something to sell.
