Default OB with a single amp

Hello all!

I intend to use an OB with passive crossover with a really strong amp and let it play the full range with massive boosting. When I do this digitally (DEQ2496) then I have the less bit-depth for the treble, the more I lift the bass, right? How far can I go? And about analog EQing: I can imagine the reasonably priced devices will also have problems operating within that range, donīt they?

Regards,
Oliver

Well I'm not sure how the DEQ works, but a lot of digital EQs use a 24 bit word depth, so resolution is not likely to be a problem. A 24 bit word gives you over 16 million levels.

You are right that massive bass boost is usally needed for OB bass. A simple shelving low-pass will be the easy solution. Active, passive, analog or digital. All have their own strengths and weaknesses. Pick your poison.

just remember that your bass drivers have to be able to cope, and OB bass is generally not that efficient.

800W is plenty, but I donīt want to burn it in the passive shelving filter. The question is whether the DAC/output stage really have the necessary SNR to to do what the processor tells them. Are there tuning advices for the DEQ, as they are for the DCX?
