Default Next set of DIY speakers

Almost done my ZBM4 build, so currently looking for the next project. One thing, has to be cheap. I could build Zaph's ZDT3 (?), but it kinda looks ugly (I know, pretty ignorant of me to hate on a design just because it looks weird) I may decide to do another bookshelf, and a pair of Dynaudios from Troels' DIY website may be good. I like the looks of the 3" voice coil and ventilated dust cap...Any ideas?

ZDT3 ugly? Don't make a snap judgment based on the little pic on his site.

I did make a small change so that the baffle and lower front piece are flush, and I think this improves the looks. To me the mid is the ugliest part. However, after completing them and actually seeing them, it doesn't bother me. Another way to "clean" it up would be to glue in the baffle so that it is not removable. That would eliminate the 8 bolts on the front. But I use those bolts to magnetically mount the grills. Also as you can see, I didn't build the base block. I like the sleek, simple look so I made them 40.25" high, the height given on the plans without the block.

Looks or not, you won't be disappointed by the sound. BTW, that is the worst looking speaker of the two.

That's a very good looking speaker. Agree that the mid could look better, but by the looks of the finished product you wouldn't say.

Any other suggestions? Zaph took off the ZDT3 plans, and I have no clue as to when it's going to be back...

The ZDT3 should be back in about 1-2 weeks. Maybe closer to a week, we'll see. I've got all the info if you want to start on the enclosures. Keep in mind the tweeter filter will be a little different.

I've got a friend that is building the enclosures right now. He'll order parts once the new tweeter filter is released and the design is back up.

well, I personally will of course be well dealt with for the time being with my ZBM4s, but I am of course thinking about what to do next. My plan would be to do something from troels gravesen, for some change, and especially because the drivers he uses should be easier to find here in europe....

Other idea would of course be a subwoofer, but it might be hard to beat the price/performance of the TCA Scamp-10.

on an other note, how's the woofer hole coming along? our project is kinda of stalled, since we only can work on weekends, and the last few weekends have been fairly busy, but we did make one test XO on a piece of plywood (soon to be replaced by pcb, we think).

I just wish I had your workshop, currently have neither a large enough roundover, nor a chamfer bit, and those are fairly hard/expensive to get around here too..... and of course a spot of regret not having used plywood - I'll have to put some damn veneer on too

But still, looking forward to any progress, both on your part and on mine

I like the looks of the Dynaudio minis on Troels' site, so probably going for those, but with a trans-lam construction. I think I'm up to the job, but this may take an entire year (!!!) to complete...
