Altec Lansing ACS48

I know these speakers are pretty ancient, but I love my ACS48s. I mistakingly allowed my roommates to use them for our party last night and when I hooked them back up to my computer I noticed that I had no midrange. I'm pretty much a total noob when it comes to this stuff, but obviously my midrange drivers must blown. The tweeters are fine and so is the sub, just nothing coming out of the midrange drivers. Does anyone have any suggestions as to replacement drivers or is it just not worth it to fix? If the latter is true, any suggestions as to what speakers I could buy that would be comparable to these? Also, I'm on a pretty tight budget as of now, so keeping that in mind, any ideas?

I searched older topics and although there is a thread discussing this matter, it is pretty outdated and I couldn't find the parts they were talking about. I appreciate everyone's help. Thanks in advance for your time.

They have one shop in the states that's called RadioShack. Buy two new one's, if at least one is not working. (Bring the old/good one with you, for specs/size.) And don't allow your roommates in your room anymore...

I'm not familiar with them beyond just reading an in-depth review, but it convinced me that they are special enough spec wise that if you can't buy OEM replacement drivers or OEM recommended replacements, then buying a new pair of main speakers is probably your only easy option: http://www.alteclansing.com/index.ph...ect=contact_us

Thank you both so much. I've already emailed Altec Lansing about replacements and they haven't gotten back to me, that's why I posted here in the first place. I never thought about going to RadioShack, they tend to try and rip me off most of the time, but that's a good idea. I'll stop in there sometime this week. Yeah, well, how were we to know?

Anyway, I use to do a lot of business with RS, but avoid them like the plague now as their prices are high compared to the other vendors and I'm not really interested in the latest cellphone and/or sat TV scam. Really, I don't see how they stay in business, though they have closed a number of stores here in the metro Atlanta area in recent years.

Hi,

Its getting a bit serious for a set of computer speakers.

Take out the 3" drivers and replace them. Check the impedance
and the mounting style and get suitable replacement drivers. e.g.

If they do not fit possibly 3.5" car speakers might fit.
If all else fails get two new passive satelliites for use with the sub.
