Default Help Me Clone this Radical Speaker

Hi All,

I wanted to make a DIY clone of this speaker http://www.wolcottaudio.com/WA_omni.htm
and I was thinking of making it a stuffed U-frame Dipole/T-Line. My questions are
(1)when does a U-frame Dipole become a T-line (2) What are the BSC rules for such a weird Speaker
(3)Will four GR Research M165-X's with a Morel MDT33 give me 92db@8 ohms and go down to about 30hz?
(4) Would a sealed bass section be better?
(5)Could a !st Order series XO work here?

Thanks Ben

Do a web search for US Patent #4,850,452 and it might help you get some ideas. There are several sites that let you download patents for free...you just need to sign up.

What they basically do is putting a tweeter between two closely spaced waveguide elements instead of using a reflector in order to get better vertical dispersion, not so different from what Mirage do. But from the simple spherical shape of the waveguide I would expect horn colorations. In my opinion the pyramid-setup of four midwoofers only slightly improves the vertical radiation pattern compared to a traditional one midwoofer plus reflector setup, but on the other hand causes lobing problems. So in my eyes it is a radical radiation pattern über alles concept.
If you really want to clone it, my advice is using a car tweeter with no front plate and four Eighteensound 6ND430 midwoofers (16 Ohm version) in parallel.

As you can see it has a very nice response 45° off axis and should be OK for the pyramid setup.
