About a month ago, I bought AudoXpress Magazine that had THOR loudspeaker project (written by Joe D'Appolito) in it. Mr. Appolito mentioned that for the first time, someone: Auspurger (Auspruger?), has finally established a relation between length of the TL and Theille-Small params. Appolito's Thor was designed based on Auspurger work.
Funny thing is, I haven't seen TL design in this forum using Auspurger method. I tried to search this forum using "auspurger OR auspruger" key entry, but no match. And finally, the classic question: "Does someone have a copy of Auspurger papers/articles, and willing to share it so I can download it?" Many thanks!

Da5id:
Unfortunately, I posted in the forum of that JBL site asking if anyone knew the patent number of George Augspurger's invention of the 1960's, the Double Chamber Reflex. I never got a reply. I did find a phone number for his audio consulting firm, Perception, Inc. However, I was loathe to contact a busy man at his place of business to ask about something that did not have to do with his business. I was unable to locate an Email address.

We have two people on this forum who have sites devoted to Transmission Lines. One is Planet 10. His website is http://www.t-linespeakers.org The other is Martin J. King, (MJK on this forum). He has written a program for Transmission Lines that take into account the Thiele-Small parameters. Whether it is based on Augspurger's work, I do not know. His website is http://www.quarter-wave.com/ Either one of them might be popping into this thread. Or you can Email either one through DIYAudio's Email. Or you can go to their websites. Both websites are certainly worth checking out. Good luck!

Its funny that there is so little public information about him. I’ve also been interested in his double chamber reflex design, but too bashful to try to contact him directly.
I’ve been told that he's a very pleasant person to talk with. I think that this cabinet design may still be a staple in many of his studio designs. I’ll let you know if I come across the patent. |

Thanks guys for all the responds.
The reason for asking Augspurger (now this is the right spelling) papers is that when I read Appolito article about Thor, it seems that it's much easier to design TL with Augspurger method. Well, I guess I just have to start reading those links you guys provided. Thanks!

You're welcome. Da5vid: Here is a thread on the Double Chamber Reflex. I copied part of a chapter of a book by David Weems on how to build one. Weems gives full credit to Augspurger for the invention. However, since Augspurger invented the box before Thiele-Small published their paper, the patent does not deal with Thiele-Small parameters. Weems' method takes Thiele-Small parameters into account. article about double chamber speaker enclosure

Keltic, Augspurger's papers that I'm talking are these: 14) Loudspeakers on Damped Pipes - Part One : Modeling and Testing, Part Two : Behavior by G. L. Augspurger, Audio Engineering Society preprint 5011. 15) Transmission Lines Updated - Parts 1, 2, and 3, by G. L. Augspurger, Speaker Builder, Volume 22 Numbers 2, 3, and 4. (I copied & pasted from Da5id link above, thanks Da5id!) and it definely puts Thielle-Small params into account. Yes, I know, you're talking about double chamber box (not TL), and now I'm curious. I followed the double chamber thread you provided, and I just skimmed through it. I got the impression that the double chamber would mostly be used for building subwoofer. Sorry to ask such dumb question.... I don't have any background on loudspeaker acoustic, but I'm willing to learn and I'll be a good student . I know the easiest thing to do is to buy some books written by Weems or Dickason, but that is after I deal with money things. Thx a ton!
