Looks like DML (Distributed Mode Loudspeaker) technology to me.

In my opinion it's more novelty than hi-fi; although there are a few "hi-fi" DML designs out there.

You can get exciters without panels from amina, unfortunately $$, as far as I believe mid-price are only available for OEM.
