Greetings!
I am going to be using these 3" widerangers for HT surround as well as serious listening ambience: http://www.madisound.com/catalog/pro...oducts_id=8305 I am wondering if I should notch the peak in the 10K region - it appears to be fairly significant. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. And a belated Happy New Year to everybody.

You're right, it does look fairly significant, and will likely melt your ears
If I were using this driver, I'd want to cross it to a small tweeter at about 4-5kHz. The Aura NT1 looks like a good candidate for $9. |

I want to get away with a single driver with minimal filter - I decided to order the Aura NS3-193-8A1 - more expensive and less efficient than the Peerless, but it has a smaller peak lower down that I don't think will need a notch, and the next one is up at 15 which I think for my needs will be pretty much out of the way.

They look almost identical to me, only at different dB levels. But I'm no expert.
Filter can come later if I feel it's needed.

Looking at the transfer curve you can see exactly what the filter does; it helps flatten the two lumps in the frequency response. The improvement I believe will be fairly significant, though the filter parts could easily end up costing the same amount as the driver itself.

For HT and ambience I'm not too worried at the moment. If these were going to be mains...
