Default Vifa P13WH00 + ??? as a first-order two way?

I want to make a transmission line first-order two way, and since people have raved so much about the Vifa P13WH00 I thought I would try to use it. I have no idea if this is a good idea or not.

From the information that I could find it seemed that one of the Vifa D27 series tweeters would be a good match, but I don't know if it would play as well with the P13 in a first order setup as it would otherwise. Does anyone know how well that would work, or is there a better tweeter to use here for about the same price ($50 +- 20 or so)?

Is there is a better mid/woofer to use for this sort of project (again, for about $50 +- 20)?

So it seems that I missed the huge thread that was very closely related to this. I put in the wrong search terms when I searched the first time.

Sorry.

Sorry.

So? Start another, no problem.
Do you have the drivers? I did a rear surround set using those here .

One thing I didn't do in that project was to leave enough space behind the driver. I found I was getting a lot bouncing right back out through the cone from the divider.

I tried a first order crossover and didn't like the results.

I don't have the drivers yet.

I won't have the problem of sound bouncing back because I am going to make a transmission line that goes straight back from the driver and gradually curves down and back towards the front (I haven't calculated how long it needs to be, so there may be some S-bends later in its path). Only problem I see with this is that I'll have to figure out a way to get the effect of putting the driver 1/3 of the way down the TL with this arrangement. Maybe a side chamber next to the driver or something (perpendicular to the main TL).

Whatever speaker I make will also have a large baffle similar to the "poor man's strad" that I saw on these forums.

It's going to be really weird looking.

I think you are asking too much of the P13 to expect a lot of low end out of it. Perhaps as a desktop speaker or something, but not as a main driver in a lounge room. IMO, asking it to do the low stuff ruins its midrange.

As for the x-o.. yes you can use it 1st order, but its an odd beast, seems to prefer crossing no higher than around 2400, which is odd for a 5".

Perhaps, but I have a really good subwoofer, so as long as it rolls off nicely at not too high of a frequency (maybe 40-50Hz ?), I should be alright, shouldn't I?

I would aim for around 80-90Hz absolute minimum from the P13

Yeah, looking at the response plots again, and looking at the simulated response plots from MJL21193 tells me you're right.

So, um, anybody got a good recommendation for a couple of relatively inexpensive woofers to go with the P13?

Hi,
Solen has the SEAS CA21REX08 on sale for $42. I have used these in another project and I can say they are a very good quality 8" woofer.
Should work well in a TL enclosure.

then you use the P13 down to say 250-300, and really get the best out of its mids.
