Default Horns

I fell in love with the sound of the Avantgarde Horns a few years ago. But even a used pair is just too much for my finances at this point. Has anyone come close to a DIY approach to a similiar sounding horn system?

No, but I've built better sounding horns than the AG's I've heard.

i know the Avantgarde's quit well. I have visit Holger Fromme at his home in Germany , heard his personal system, and had the opportunity to hear their speakers at other opportunities. They always impressed me, and were dream of consume. However, the price is prohibitive.

they use in the trio

- beyma woofers 12" lx60 in the bass
- 8" driver, probably beyma mid-bass
- community m200a driver midrange
- beyma cp380m 1" compression driver tweeter

they use almost any crossover parts.

if you have a source to make the horns, than you can built a similar system at a fraction of what Avantgarde is asking.

alternative to the community m200a are the Radians, and tweeter, beyma cp25, or slot. These deliver performance similar to the drivers, Avantgarde uses.

i do not use any crossover for the Radian 950pb. Since i drive it only with a view watts, it doesn't hurt the driver.

Thanks Angelo. I have a woodowrking shop, so I would be able to build what you have shown. Are you willing to correspond on the design particulars?

Seems like a very unique approach, I wonder what kind of soundtage in terms of depth and width these can project.

Theoretically they should sound more accurate to the source than the avantgarde, since they are a single coherent point source. No way to distinguish which driver handles which frequency range since they all merge. Like headphones, just a little bit more maxSPL.
