So I've gotten bored of the speakers I've built after listening to a really good horn system (belonged to a guy I did a few jobs for). I've decided to sell them off and use the money to build myself a custom pair of 3way horn speakers. I would like some help in choosing the drivers though as I'm kinda lost shopping for compression drivers and cone drivers suitable for horn loading.
What I'm willing to spend: $300-400 (for each 3way) Frequency response: 20,000-150 (don't wanna deal with the size of horns bellow that until the summer when I have time) Impedance: 16ohm If it makes any difference the horns are going to be hyperbolic and made of wood. |

Kinda bumping the topic and adding some new info.
I'm currently looking at the 16ohm BMS compression drivers for the tweeter and mids. For the woofer I'm looking at the 16ohm version of the B&C 8NW51. The problem is that the Assistance Audio guys haven't answered the email yet so I'm sill wondering about the pricing of the BMS drivers...I'd like to stay in budget. Also is the 8NW51 suitable for horn loading? |

Can you consider 8 ohm?
It'd give you more flexability.

Someone is probably going to call me a nutcase but I tend to like the sound of higher impedance speakers better. Don't know why but I do.

He's a nutcase too! I dig running five 16 ohm bass drives in parallel. Sounds great! But I'm not nuts. |

It could be worse...I could think of speaker impedance like most people my age do.
"I don't know what happened to my system! I thought 2ohm was better than 4!" (nearly exact quote, minus the swearing, of one of my friends concerning his car stereo...I told him the speakers he bought would cause problems...) |
