Hi All
Just wanted to share this with you, tonight i couldn't resist to take a peek inside my Rega R5 speakers and there are two things i noticed. First the filter, as they say, it is really simple indeed 1 x 4,7 mkt cap, 1 x .35 mH air coil and 1 x .3 mH iron coil. Second thing is the panel between the woofer and the air vent. This panel has lots of small (1mm wide) grooves in it, just fascinating!! picture isn't really sharp, bit shows what i mean. Now I'm wondering if upgrading the filter will be worth while or would i probably mess up the speakers? With upgrading the filter i more or less mean replacing the cap for some higher grade cap. I really like these speakers, especially with guitars, pianos is less. Would replacing the caps give me a good chance to improve this speaker, or is this just a case of try it and you will find out yourself anyways, hope someone with experience could give me some advice cheers, c. |

hi, i had the R3's that also had the slotted bracing/ port thing, its strange as they have a really shallow front reflex port as well.
i dont know what it it, but it does work wonders for the bass, possibly the best bass quality i have heard from a boxed speaker ![]() thats the best i could do as-well
