Default new 12" could be OB hit ?

The new 12" from new-commer SB Acoustic (former scan-speak people) could be nice for open baffle aplications:

fs = 19Hz
Qts =0.4
and linear coilt travel of 22 mm pp

12 SB34NRX75-6

Why? Qts is suitable for a sealed alignment, or perhaps vented if you're nuts. Bl is pretty low too at a rated 10.7 Tm, but I'm assuming that Fs would go up and it wouldn't reach as low if it were much higher than that. Seems like a fairly nice driver though. What's the price?

As far as current woofers that are suitable stictly for OB use and are also easily obtainable, I have yet to find a better all around driver for the money than the 15" Augie from Hawthorne Audio, designed to be used with their large OB coax with a cheapo eminence tweeter that many people seem not to care for.

These look nice for OB, but for those who build big, for sure no boosting capabilities.

The 15" peerless SLS driver has a much lower Qts this driver is reportedly used in the well reviewed Jamo 909 speaker (OB).
With lower Qts drivers you obviously need some EQ.
But just look at the freq. response chart of the new SB acoustics driver (probably measured on a wide baffel) - not a lot of EQ would be needed.

This driver looks a lot like the woofers used in the hidiously expensive Lyngdorf - Steinway high end OB system - that reportedly uses woofers by Scandinavian audio research AKA SB acoustics!

Also note that the graph shows response at 31.6cm.

I always thought Jamo used their own drivers, no?

Just an educated guess here:

most big speaker companies normally design their own speaker drivers in accordance to their spec., and subcontract them to driver manufacturer because the former have

i. the design knowledge
ii. buying power for large no of drivers, if not order a min
quanity.

so their drivers are most likely propriety.

some of more knowldgeable people here can confirm or deny.

BL has no effect on Fs.

Yeah, makes sense. I thought about that for a second after I posted it. Thanks for the confirmation.
