Default Can Receivers power Bookshelf Speakers?

Hi there, I looked around the forum and cant seem to find the answer.

I was wondering if a Home Theather Reciever and be used to power a pair of book shelf speakers?
This might not be the best way, but It is the most cost effective way for me right now. I'm almost done building a pair of Swifty's from Madisound . http://www.madisound.com/catalog/pro...oducts_id=1731

I ask this because I have about 60,000 sony rewards points and I was thinking about scarping this credit card. So if this means I can power my speakers to their full potential thats a bonus. What should I look for in terms of specs?

thanks a bunch.

Absolutely - why were you worried it might not? Also, if you're going to only run two speakers, you can save money and get a 2-channel receiver, unless you want the extra HT features or plan to add more speakers later, and/or want to run a sub on a dedicated circuit.

As for specs, looks like you're fine there - are you planning on playing at very high levels? It's possible the speakers will reach their limit before the receiver does.

A cheap solution. Much cheaper than this, and it wouldn't be worth having, IMO. But this would get the job done..

Honestly, if you're the least bit interested in getting the most for your money, careful selection of components on the used market from reputable sellers would be a good choice. Personally, I only buy slightly used equipment, except for few exceptions.

Actually, I just happened to remember.. I have 2 of these in storage right now for sale...brand new in unopened boxes:

..I'd probably be willing to let you have one for half that price, if not less.
