Sensitivity match in a 3-way system? all of equal sensitivity? or bass is 6db more?
 

Dear friends,
I ve been fiddling over the net for knowing the right sensitivity of the drivers as its said that sensitivity of the woofer driver in a 3 way system will be 6 db more than that of the mids and highs....where mids and highs will be having the same sensitivity. Its said that the room absorbs that 6db. How far this is true?

please guide me.

No, the room may add sound level.
Depending on speaker placement.
Go for equal SPL ratings.

Hi,

In a 3 way the nominal sensitity of the bass units should be ~ 4dB
higher than the midrange unit, giving some flexibilty to pad the
mid a dB or so back. The tweeter should be few dB above the mid
so this can also be attenuated back to match the midrange.

Buying them all the same sensitivity is wrong .......
If you do you will need to attenuate both mid and treble ~ 4 to 5 dB.

It will be good for the bass to be 6dB more efficient if your XO point is at or higher than the baffle step frequency (just do a search to find out more). Other guys can comment more (and more competantly) on this. :)

6dB is generally too much as you may not be able to lift the mid and
treble above your nominal bass level, attenuating bass is not good.

If you use 18" woofers you probably wont need any BSC:D
