Default beta 8" possibilities

Hello, I was thinking of using this driver full range. in a ported box with a tweeter for home theater surrounds. The high sensitivity, power handling, and smooth roll off look really good for this. Anyone have any experience with this driver full range? http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=290-404

I've used these drivers in a 2 different configurations. The first config was 2 drivers per box using a modified EBS alignment. The second driver was used to flatten out the natural roll off of the EBS alignment and was rolled off above 100Hz. This system reached down to ~35Hz

The second configuration is the system I've been listening to and tweaking on since Christmas of '05. This system has 2 drivers per side loaded into a damped u-baffle. The second driver is used for bass boost to help overcome the natural roll off of the open baffle system. I have a tapped 10mh choke on the bass boost driver, not sure what tap is in use at this time. This system gets down to around 60Hz.

Both systems used the Hi-Vi RT8 tweeters.

The beta 8 drivers are nice drivers with a clean fast sound. The rise in response at the top of their range is easily flattened with a .4mh choke in series with the wide range driver.

Over all I would say give 'em a try.

Gary,

Where do you cross the wide range beta 8 to the RT8?

Thanks

The effective crossover frequency is 6K. With the .4mH correction coil in place the Beta 8 starts to roll off at 4.5K and is nicely behaved. The RT8 has a 12dB crossover filter. No padding of the tweeter was necessary.
