with a good strong motor coaxial I don't think Karlson's 15 inch enclosure is too shabby..
starting gap, flare, reflector tilt/shape and employment of front shelf can be used to vary a K-coupler's reverb and presentation. some couplers and wing flare might like a fairly large gap. It might be possible to see-saw upper bass to LF by a couple of dB the first coupler picture I tried with a lot of apparent choking to the aperture sounded awful with 5/8" gap but swiveling the wings on the cleats to give 1.2" gap gave good sound overall with a 1" Smith horn on top. Magnetar has built asymmetric projector type and those might give open baffle spawn experiments. I like the regular upright K to save front to back space from the wall. Metro's foldback technique might be one thing to try - I've added a stub - keeping a taper could be good (?) use of rear lowpass filter may improve apparent transient response plus if its on the vent boundary will allow lower Fb for a given vent area open end slotted waveguides work well and blend easier than some horns 32" tall coupler with 1.2" starting gap - baffle angle 23 degrees, port board angle 10 degrees 2-4.5"x4.5" vents, box size 32x21.25x16 ![]() 18" coupler 42" high - very good impact - faster than my K-horns and clearer than my fullrange using the k-tube from "x15" mounted inside (shown on top here) ![]() sketch of first coupler pictured after I added a stub - taper might help and it might be vented at rear instead of "underneath" as I did in this kluge ![]() Metro's T-15 PA woofer

Freddi, how high can that last K go?
And are all Ks ported? |

here's literature showing graph, discussion and dimensions
Metro T-15 http://www.metroaudiosystems.gr/page..._Manual_en.pdf regarding vented - I believe most original Karlson had vents including the asymmetric projectors. K don't have to be vented. Maybe Magnetar will comment on his klam experiements. |

That would be cool, would like to know more about the K-reflectors on the OB speakers too.
How much gain in the bandwidth can I expect in a K-coupler? My midbasses I want to use are 98 dB sensitive, and would like to be over 100 dB with them. Mainly looking for 70-300 or 500 on top. |

you might have to examine a coupler like a bandpass box with front tuning for vented case giving a 3rd Z peak like some of the stuff I've posted
FWIW here's a JLB M151 swapped between RCA-FAn's Hawaii V-vent box and a beat up K15 - k15 has less cone excursion (maybe 1/2) plus abit of apparent gain at ~groundplane (my hillside yard drops off about 7 feet behind the mic) and 2M but less output below 50 ![]() K will add a type of "reverb" so you'd have to deal with that - ask Steve Schell and Rich Drysdale about Steve's K15 lashup how it sounded all things have tradeoffs |
