I've got BIB's built out of birch ply, and the suprabaffles and trim pieces are made from red oak...just wondering how other people who have built two-toned speakers finished them, whether staining them separately, or just using one finish over the whole thing, or what...

I would do one finish, and would choose a finish based on how durable you want it, and what you want it to look like.
Danish oil and wax is simple, and easy to maintain. Poly is extremely durable, not as easy to do "right" and also easy to maintain If you aren't worried about the finish taking a beating, I would do the oil and wax thing. It really is quite satisfying and gives pieces a subtle luster. Poly, unless it is satin or flat makes wood look like plastic. I also don't ever stain anything. Good luck, C |
