I've built myself a pair of boxes using the designs here but now I'm wondering about the driver selection. The designer of these picked the a Dayton 8" classic as the woofer, a Peerless 2" poly dome for the mid and a Dayton Neodymium dome tweeter. What concerns me is the power rating for the tweeter and midrange is pretty low which means it won't sound so good at high volumes and could blow easily
So I'm wondering if anyone could point me to some better drivers that can handle more power than these? And in case you didn't go to the link, the box is 9"x10"x40" and the crossover depends on the drivers. |

What is your budget? And do you realize that if you change the drivers you will need to change the crossover also?

Yup I know I'll need a different crossover if I pick different drivers and I'm sure I'll be asking about how to design one soon.
My budget is about $200 for the internals. Since this is my first DIY speaker project I decided I should start with something relatively cheap. |

Why don't go with Dayton RS52AN-8 2" Dome Midrange instead of the Peerless which is sold out. The box is dimensioned for the woofer.
