Default Just a simple question lol

Hello People

I'm making a pair of cheap speakers and have a simple question, This speaker in question is going to be ported and I was just wondering "Should I have the ports as close to the loudspeakers as possible with some clearance or just stick them at the bottom like normal speakers"? and yes I do want the ports on the front lol unless you can give me some cons about it, then pro's on why its better on another side because I like them on the front

The speakers that are going to be used are some pioneer 10" coaxials off Ebay, 2 in each speaker to give an 8 ohm load, all I aim for is understandable and spl traits for now and ill tell you how it finishes up instead of asking and pestering you on how it will outcome before its even made, like I usually do lol

Thank Cya
Peter

It does make a difference. Just put them where you like and as long as the box is not big so the distance from speaker to port becomes acoustically significant, it should be ok.

Major resonances escaping from enclosures/ports is yucky.

ok then box dimensions are:

30cm wide x 120cm high x 40cm depth

The coaxials are going to be placed as close to one another as possible and at the top of the baffle, and the ports would be at the bottom of the baffle, leaving a 40 - 50cm gap between them

what you say? keep it like that or put the ports under the woofers?

thanks

The aspect of your cabinet has 1 dimesion that is significantly larger than the others... that means quarter wave resonancces may be coming into play... if they are and the ports are at the bottom of the box, then you will end up with an ML-TL and not a bass reflex... the port tuning from your typical box calc program will be off.

Martin King's software can model this.
