For this application, an active crossover seems the way to go: no power loss, no high voltage (bulky and expensive) capacitors or thick wire (bulky and expensive) inductors. Alternatively, you could use an active x-over for the bass versus mid-high, and use a passive one for mid and high.

PA active x-os.....

Dealing with this sort of power you CANNOT go passive. the heat disipation etc for coils caps resistors is way beyond virtually any components available.

You must use an active x-o, and there are quite a few available, the ones below being among the "good but reasonable price" and would certainly be ok for DJ use !!

also do a search on Behringer site etc and any other major brand of PA gear.

no no no !!!

i Have 2 Use Xover In the speakers !!!!
i cant use in active crossover !!!
i need now to build 2 Way for mid and high....
that can work in 1800W Peak ~ 900W RMS!!!!!!!!!

thanks...

If you really want to go passive, you will need huge inductor, capacitor and a lot of resistor in parallel. It can cost you 1000$ for a simple second order crossover.

Very very simple first order crossover can be achieved (without impedance compensation) at a lower cost.

Inductor will be done with 8 gauge wire (~1200W). For example a 1.5mH coil needs around 150 feet of 8 gauge copper wire.
Capacitor of 1000V: probably paper-oil type.

TMS-4's Crank Bigtime.

Tamir,
Are you saying 900rms/channel total, or 900rms for mids and highs ?.
The preferred method for achieving high quality high power reproduction is to run 3way (or 4) electronic crossover, and 3 (or 4) power amplifiers per channel.

Second best method is to run a two way electronic crossover, and two amplifiers per channel - one power amp for lows, and one power amp for mids/highs driving a mids/highs cabinet with internal passive crossover.

Running seperate power amps for lows and mids/highs pays very big dividends in terms of reliability and sound quality, and a correctly implemented passive mids/highs crossover works perfectly fine, if not better than electronic 3way.

Turbosound TMS-4 cabinets do exactly this - one input connector for lows, and one input connector for mids/highs.
From memory, the lows input is rated 300wrms, and mids/highs is rated at 150wrms - these are very efficient speakers, so those power ratings mean more than they suggest at first glance.

Impedence compensation of the drivers is mandatory to achieve high sustained sound levels and reliability, and is an additional, but not prohibitive cost.

We need a little more detail of what you want to do, and what you have if we are to help you further.

Eric.

that is possible ,to use passive crossover

a pair of Eminence pxb-5ko 400w rms each high pass filter

a pair of Eminence 600w rms each low pass filter

a pair of Eminence 400w rms each band pass filter.

But the costs aren't that high but.

£15 + £15 for the high pass

£25 + £25 for the band pass

£35 + £35 for the low pass

which equals = £150 for six crossovers

If you want more specs go to the eminence site and lookk at their crossovers www.eminence-speaker.com

By the way active is not cheaper, because the active crossover costs £130 min, then you have to buy three poweramps for each section[high, mid, bass] which would cost over £1000.If you've got quite a lot of money,an active crossover is cool, because you can adjust the cutoff frequency to your application, but if your on a budget, an active crossover and at least three poweramps[good quality makes] are expensive.QSC,Crown,Crest,Carvin,Lab Gruppen. Also there are cheaper amps made by Peavey and Gemini[XPM series are pretty good].And makes like Crown,QSC,Crest, you could be second hand, but in good condition, but even three amps second hand and a new active crossover would cost as much or more than £600.
