Here is a project I've been working on for about 3 months. The plan is 2 way with 15 Exodus subs and a Hemp Acoustics 8"DIY fullrange. The system will most likely be an active crossover setup. The 15 Drivers from Exodus will be mounted in 15" PVC pipe 16" long. The pipes will then be bolted to thick MDF pieces that I'm routering with templates.
Ya I know some early pics were posted in the "Subwoofer" forum a month ago, Didn't get to feed back from there. Here is some pics of the build so far. If anybody has any input or sees any potential problems let me know. |

Here is the first mock up of most of the pieces stacked up together. The bottom cut out has not been done yet that is a week or two out yet.
The 15's fit flush in the end of the PVC pipe, and the 8" Hemp Acoustics driver will be mounted in the larger top baffle. |

Here is a shot from the back. The PVC was originally green so I painted it black on the inside.

And one more closeup of the side where the middle baffle meets the 2 pipes. The finish on the pipes will be African Mahogony and the baffle pieces will be done in rotary Birch.

My first pass through your posts I thought the tubes were for something like a 7" midwoofer, and the bit sticking out the top was for a tweeter. Then I read the posts closer (instead of just looking at the pretty pictures), then I took a closer look at the picture looking out the garage door. Those things are huge!
I have used Fostex full-range drivers before, but never seen or heard an OB-full-range. Interesting idea, I really like the idea of all that extra surface area for the u-dipole bass. I wonder how high the 8" will operate as a dipole? I am sure the back radiation will be significantly different at very high frequencies from the front, but I wonder where highs will start to drop off. Do you have any testing on the 360 radiation? |
