I can remember listening to the Altec line when I purchased a pair of model 9's. The models under 7 don't have much to offer. The model 7's and 9's sound pretty good for a 1976 vintage speaker.
I still have my model 9's. |

I have the model 7 and need to change the foam surround on the bass driver and the medium driver. I did not find a good foam yet for the 4 inch driver. Looks like the dimensions are not exactly the same as new 4 inch driver.

well I have a pair of Model 5s and like them. I guess the important question is how much to purchase?
If cheap enough, then I'd say go for it, if big $$s I 'd say don't bother. I bought a beautiful pair of Model 5s for CAD $15.

Seller wants $45. They look to be in pretty good condition.
but it sounds like it might not be worth it from your unfavorable posts.... |

wow 15$, what a deal! Just the surround for the 12'' is 20$. I think for 45$ it is still a very good deal. Personally I would buy them for the driver and make a new cabinet.

Nice site Frank...whats wrong with the existing cabinets?
How would these compare to a Madisound BK-16 kit which is what I have or previous speakers I owned such as Magnepan MMG, Quad 22L or Linn Keiligh. |

There is nothing wrong with the cabinet but I like to build speakers so I would probably experiment with them. When my speaker will be fixed, I will probably try an open baffle.
