Well, several months in the making, but I finally got the prototype done.
It's a 3 way design. Dayton 8" RS for the woofers. HiVi B3N midrange, and Neo3 PDR tweeter. 2nd order LR woof to midrange at 500Hz, 3rd order LR midrange to tweeter at 3kHz. There's a LCR notch filter before the tweeter crossover to tame the rising peak on the Neo3 (mostly above 10kHz) Baffle right now is 1' x 3' pine, but the final speaker will be bubinga and maple. Still need to play around with the baffle (adding U wings to extend the bass a bit) and the notch filter and tweeter could use some tweaking, but overall I'm pretty happy with the design. More info as the design unfolds. Thanks to everyone who helped me research parts of this over the last few months. |

Here's the FR for the prototype.
Mic was 18" away, on axis with the tweeter. ECM8000 mic, Room EQ Wizard software, 20 to 20kHz sweep, non-gated. |
