My living room won't support them, but I've been thinking it would be a lot of fun to have some nice, loud, high sensitivity party speakers. Something to mostly live in the basement, but would come out every once in a while to rock the block. Since they would only be for special occations, I can't justify spending a lot of money on them.
Enter the MCM sale cataloge I just got in the mail! Can I resist MCM 12" woofer #55-1745? Maybe not, if someone can suggest a good way to put it to use. I know, I know, everyone asks "hey there's this driver, is it good?" but at least I can tell you that while the MCM website still seems to want $42 for it my mailing says it's on sale for $25. I searched for info on it, but all I found was one guy suggesting that it wouldn't make a good sub. 96.7 db, Fs 45hz Qts .43 Qes .47 Qms 4.95 and the xmax is only listed as 1.0 mm. 50 hz - 4.5 khz they say. What can you do with 1 mm xmax? |

That 1mm Xmax looks out of place there
Other than that, it specs like a bass guitar speaker.... which really suck at home HiFi. ** edit ** I just read: Quote:

Doh! Bummer. Really? err... *looking online*
Pi speakers uses eminence alphas in their studio and thermionic studio series... http://www.pispeakers.com/AvailableComponents.htm Of course, these aren't actually eminence drivers, so maybe that little nugget of information isn't particularly valuable... |
