I need some recommendations for ~6" woofers that will work in free air. I am going to try and mate it with one of the Tang Band 3" that are in the mid 80's sensitivity-wise. I'd like to keep the cost below $60/pair. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

MB-Quart makes good drivers IMO.
How about these: http://tinyurl.com/2mq4wo I put a pair of their DKD 146 4x6" in my car as a direct swap replacement for the original ones and I have been stunned by how good they are. In the past I have made subwoofer boxes for the boot (trunk), Concrete lined enclosures for the midranges etc The results were good but these MB-Quarts have to be the best price/performance I have encountered. And they were their Discus line, which has really made me wonder what their more upmarket line of products must be like |
