I am looking to build a set of MTM's for mainly HT use, but I am also looking for good music reproduction. I am mainly looking at the Dayton RS125s-8 so I can make a nice thin enclosure to go next to my tv. I am open to using a larger driver if it is deemed necessary. I need advice on an inexpensive but GOOD tweeter to go along with the daytons, and help with the crossovers. I am looking to go inexpensive on these but I want them to sound as good as possible for the price. Low frequency extention is not that important as I plan on running them with a sub. I have previous experience building sub enclosures but not much of anything else. I have seen other designs that use the larger dayton RS's, but they are a little too wide for what I want...also they bring the price up a bit.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike |

You may not go wrong with this design:
http://www.eldamar.net/audio/RS150MTM/ If you build a sealed version, cabinet won't be that large. Baffle width 7 1/2" seems quite narrow. |

Thanks guys. I have seen both of those designs and like them....the issues I have with them are that unless I go with the design that uses the dayton RS tweeters(which are nice but expensive in comparison) I will have to order from madisound as well as parts express. I was hoping to just order from PE as it makes things simpler. Also going from the RS125's up to the RS150's adds ~$20, and going to the RS180's brings it up about another $20. I am on a fairly tight budget right now and every little savings helps. I realize that a tight budget means I will have to make compromises in sound quality, I am ok with that as the sound quality should be better than anything I could buy in that price range...plus I get to build them myself
To clarify a little, I am looking to spend $200 or less on drivers and crossover components. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike |

With my financial constraints as they are, would I possibly be better off building a set of Microbes http://www.rjbaudio.com/Microbe/microbe.html ? I hear that they are rather good, but are they up to good HT use?

If you mate them with a sub with 100 Hz crossover.
