Default OB Bass: 12x10" or 8x15"

I'm designing a bass array to go up to a few hundred Hz. Originally the surplus NHT 10" foster woofers looked like a good deal, but the .38 Qts has me worried. On the other hand they do have good xmax and low fs. An alternative is going with some 15" pro drivers from eminence & dayton. I'm trying to keep the budget around $400.

Has anyone here sucessfully built a OB bass line array that didn't need a sub? What did you use?
