Make my decision

I am going to build a surround sound system primarily to be used for movies and tv. The room that it will be placed in is a medium sized bedroom about 10 x 12 more or less. I found a couple different options for these projects but i am new to diy speakers and am not sure which project will be right for me. Can anyone decide for me. The price to sound ratio is a big deal, i don't want to pay $100 more for sound that is only a little better then a cheaper project. Help me out please.

Here is the weird thing. After reading people's published designs on the internet for a long time I'm almost leaning toward the idea that Zaph's designs might be the best available to the public, from a strict design standpoint. I don't really like a lot of his designs because a lot of the time he focuses on extreme budget and never seems to do anything other than a 2-way (ok, occasional MTM, but never a 3 way). I think the reason I feel this way is because he seems to do the best job justifying his design decisions. A close second is Troels Gravesen. I really like a lot of Tony Gee's designs aesthetically, but they aren't as well documented as Zaph's so it's almost like you have to take his word for the fact that they are well designed. Take all of this with a grain of salt because I've only ever built one of any of these designers projects. It was Tony Gee's FE103 and I really like it for what it is.

I share Cal's reservations.
That being said, dig into option #2. I think for 2 reasons: reasonable cost and size. 5 larger speakers in your room will overwhelm the decorating decisions...yes, I have a wife...
Before you buy parts for the speakers, try to find something better. Satisfy yourself that you are comfortable with the decision. Only then go for it.
Don't overlook a sub woofer. Choose one that will x-over above 100 hz.

Some ideas if you do build:
The tweeter is 36mm diameter. As Zaph says, this is hard to find a drill bit to match. I sometimes take an older spade bit and regrind for odd size holes. This works for small pvc pipe. Drilling the hole requires the use of material as back up for the hole being drilled. Keeping the pilot point of the bit in solid material improves the accuracy of the hole.
Zaph points out the care needed with the MCM 55-1853, 4'' woofer hole. I would choose to make the opening just a little undersize and provide that last little bit of relief with a ball bearing chamfer bit. The amount of relief provided would be controlled with the depth of cut.
