Ok, I figured out i have the following:
scanspeak 2905-9900, 18w8545-00, 18w8535 I was thinking of a MTM that would be about 70L. I would put the 8545 in a sealed portion of the cabinet of 7L which would get me to 70hz, and the other 62L would be for the 8535 which would be about 25hz with a 2inch by 10inch port. So I guess this would be a MTW as the 8535 would be acting as a true woofer from 70-25hz. When modeling this idea, the 8535 had a port resonance at 1.5k, but seeing as i would cross it over at 70hz it shouldnt matter, correct? I was thinking of using a powered sub amplifier for the 8535 to make the crossover/gain adjustable to fit my room or would it be better to have madisound or meniscus or someone like that make an optimized crossover for all three-ways of the speaker? Is there anything I am missing in this? I am new at this, and am trying to figure this out using various web tools. and searching this forum, it doesnt seem like anyone is using the 8535 as a "sub" and i want to make sure that this would be acceptable. |

firstly in a WTM why are you considering the 8535 (more known for it's midrange than it's bass respnse) for the bass. given that you have a 60L box for the bass I wold be looking at the 2 x 21W8555 or if the budget permits the 22W8851.
The Proac used the 18W8535 becuase of the quality of the midrange it offered. If you are looking at bass and want to restrict you self to 18cm woofers I would consider 2 x 18W8546 instead. BTW have you seen this link. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread/t-47168.html and this one (discusses the 21W8555) Volume for Scan Speak 21W85550-01

I am just using what i have. I was going to go with a two-way, but figure since i have both the 8545 and 8535, why not use both in a three-way. I wasnt planning on purchasing new drivers. I figure i would build a box to get the most bass response from the 8535.

I think that 62L for 8535 is too big volume, and yours box tuning is too-low. Bass response would be too week in yours case. Maximum volume in BR, would be in my opinion 45L and this is also for discussion, with 33/35 Hz box tuning. I would consider a TL-line for 8535 with 2.9*sd/1.5*sd. With line length of 73in.

I'm not too familiar with Transmission line, i am researching now...i noticed the scan-speak event design (but it would only use one of my mid/woofers...i guess i could sell the unused one, but would like to use both as I got such a good deal on them)based on a tranmission line...I like the idea, but i''m not sure how to calculate ideal measurements/stuffing/dampening, etc. I figured a bass reflex would be an easier design/build. I will have to look more at TL designs.

Dampening, stuffing is done by the ear, it needs a little experimenting. But first try to measure T/S parameters of the drivers.
