I prefer Neutrik speakon connectors. 40 amp silver plated contacts, 4 pole locking connector that is impossible to short out (many times bare speaker wires have shorted and fried an amp)

They are relatively cheap from Jaycar, they stock genuine Neitruk and cheap copies. Even cheaper is no connector, run the cable through a hole and seal it.

the plugs are a little bulky so bear that in mind if you want to put your cabinets against the wall. They clamp nicely on round cables, not so great on figure 8. That isn't a big deal unless you drag your speakers around the room by their cables.
They only require a 22mm hole in the cabinet. Some people go to great lengths with bracing, fancy plywood and constrained layer damping then think nothing of cutting a whopping great three inch hole and covering it with a flimsy plastic cover - completely insane.
Don't buy the cable shown here from Jaycar, it's garbage. The jacket and the insulation stick together.

If you want to put your cabinets close to the wall cut a 3 inch hole and cover it from the inside with 18mm plywood. this will give you a nice 36mm recess. Remember to allow for the volume of the panel in your box calculations.
