Default Too much pressue on cone?

I made myself a pair of little 2 way monitors with one old Vifa tweeter and a a single Stryke SA-071 each. The enclosures were PE's little 0.25 cuFT ones.

Sounded decent for a while, but then the woofers began to get raspy... coil rubbing... I put in a new woofer and same issue.

In the first woofer, the glue that holds the flex wire to the coil, came off... In the second woofer, the glue that holds the coil assembly to the cone came loose.

In both cases the coil was perfect, not burnt or anything and conducting, but mechanically the woofer gave.

Is the enclosure too small and the pressure too high on the cone that it stresses the glue? Were the Strykes known for reliability or not?

I am considering replacing them with the Aurum Cantus AC-180F1 available at PE for $58 or so...

My concern is, will that give out too?

The enclosure wont really have any effect on this, sounds like you're just over driving it.

I thought about it... but in all woofers the coil is not fried or anything, it is perfectly ok. Also I do not play at cone bottoming levels , PLus, it is crossed over at above 90Hz.

If your description is any more clear and intentional than your Bush quote, then by the rules of logical analysis you do not have enough data to draw any meaningful conclusion.

You have had two different failures in one enclosure while the transducers in the other enclosure remain intact. You cannot rule out pure coincidence.

True I cannot rule it out, but 4-5 drivers from the same batch have failed in different applications. In all cases the VC was functioning normally after it was resoldered... only mechanical failure occure. The common variable... me and the Stryke woofer

But regardless... my concern is about using the Usher replacement driver... would I have the same issue... I was hoping to get some thoughts with anyone who had similar experiences.. or someone who knew about using woofers in smallish enclosures.
