Yesterday I did a very easy to do mod on my BMS 4540ND drivers.
I was strugling with a nasty little squeek sometimes when playing a bit louder so I took the drivers themselves to a closer inspection. When ticking with my finger on the back of the driver there's a plastic sounding click coming out of the horn (eh waveguide actually). I took of the BMS logo from the back of the driver and saw that the pahseplug is hollow n the inside. The phaseplug is part of the driver diaphragm, in fact the whole wavepad is made out of thin nasty plastic. So I simply filled the whole thing with epoxyglue and e-voila, nasty peak is gone, more detail is coming thru. When ticking on the back with my fingers again now there's a very dry click coming out of the horn, maybe this could be damped a little more but so far it's a nice improvement, simple to do and very cost effective as well. |
