Help with refoaming
First of all, I just want to say hello and thank you to everyone, this is my first post.
So I just finished refoaming a set of 15" woofers from a pair of Marantz 3-way speaker cabinets. They are about 15-20 years old, and the foam surrounds were rotted out. The sound is now absolutely astonishing.
Now, most drivers have the surround glued on top of the cone, facing outside, from what I understand. These Marantz drivers had the surround glued to the underside of the cone which I've never seen before. All the guides I've read online about refoaming have the surround glued to the outside. Following the original design, however, proved to work quite well.

Now my question is, I've got a pair of Infinity bookshelf speakers whose 6" drivers need refoaming as well, but their surrounds are glued to the outside of the cones. I don't see a reason not to glue the new surrounds to the underside of the basket like the Marantz drivers, as it's much easier to center the cone around the magnet this way. Besides, there's no dustcap I can cut out to place spacers between the magnet and coil. I didn't have to do this with the Marantz woofers because of the fact that the surrounds went under the basket, making it very easy to center the cone perfectly. I'd like to know if you guys think it's ok to glue the new surrounds to the underside of the cone with these drivers like I did with the Marantz ones.

Thanks!!
