Passive crossover before amplifier - biamping

This is perhaps a silly question but I'm wondering why there is little discussion of using a passive crossover before the amplification stage in a bi-amped setup?

To me, this seems like a good idea as you can avoid the complexity of an active crossover and still get all the benefits of bi-amping, such as being able to use a zobel network etc. The crossover would only have to deal with line level.

What am I missing?

The method is relatively used, especialy in automotive audio line.
