Default like some opinions on this design

hello all

ive been trying to design a set of TMWWs for me for a little while now and i THINK i might have a handle on it now

since this is going to be my first "my design" build id like to make sure i have all my Is dotted and my Ts crossed so to speak............especially with spending the money that these seem to be turning out to be

driver compliment is <so far > going to be: morel MDT-37 tweeter : Aurum Cantus AC-130MKII doing the mid-bass thing and a pair of Audax HT240G0 10" taking care of the lower end .......these drivers are of course are not "set in stone" if someone has any good ideas

enclosed please find a pic of the X over for these..........

xover frreqs are 2250 and 175..............was designed with speaker workshop

cabs will be a 7.4cube ported at 29hz for the 10" morels <2 per cab> and a .5 <ish> sealed for the AC.........

all opinions suggestions comments and poking fun at are more than welcomed

TIA
scott

Hi,
Sure!

The crossovers: I would've thought that it's more important to get rid of high frequencies from the woofer, and not so important to have a steep high-pass filter for the tweeter, unless your main concern is power handling.

My guess is that you will be low on midrange SPL ... a single 5" with double 10" .... the result may be heavy and boomy bass

Those Audax does look very nice

But the 10" is a strange driver with strange specs ..... 4ohm, high Fs, high Qts, high SPL, low VAS, 7mm Xmax, double magnet .... surely intended fore a very special design

With double 10" in BR, you will need drivers with low Qts

MAYBE, if you used a plateamp on woofers in closed box .... still, I think that Fs=50hz on a 10" is on the high side

But, you could be lucky, who knows

that audax driver did look neat...strange but neat........

after kicking it around i believe you guys are right

heres another design im working on ............

single Morel MDT-37

double Aurum Cantus AC-130MKII

single Dayton RS270S-8 10"

probably set up as a MID-TWEETER-MID-WOOFER

5.0 cf box for the dayton ported @ 29hz

.142 cube sealed for the pair of ACs

cross over points are 2250 and 175

what do you guys think of this one???

thanx again

And you might consider the AurumCantus AC-130F1 .... looks VERY smooth and easy to control ... I do prefer a nice curved cone fore mids

Hard to say .... anywhere between 2-4khz

Well, serious .... its "modern" these days to cross around 2khz, before the driver loose too much dispersion
On the other hand, this puts more stress on the tweeter ..... which I think is very much audible .... and because of the need fore steep slopes maybe only recommendable fore 2ways

With low xo point you get the advantage of a much broader "sweetspot" .... but in my opinion also less precise and defined, in other words a bit diffuse and out of phase .... I reckon its in its nature, but only my personal experiense and I may have been wrong on this matter

With higher xo point you get very precise and welldefined imaging with good "pinpointing" effect.... on the other hand also a VERY "narrow" sweetspot, which means that you only have perfect imaging when listening EXACTLY in the middle .... move just a bit to one side, and its lost .... suits me fine though

Listen to the driver and judge from that .... and dont expect it to be perfect in first try .... my advise will be to work with simple solutions, which also means drivers that are wellbehaved outside their passband

BTW .. this is how my crossover looks like .... I dont think I can get more out of the drivers used .... my next speaker will be much simpler ..... small Jordan(?) fullrange with a 12" woofer
