Is there a minimum recommended size for an open baffle driver? Can a 5.5" driver produce dipole radiation on an open baffle, or is it too small?
Would it be advantageous to select a driver with a neo magnet, which is smaller and more compact, thereby obstructing less of the rear wave? Thank you. |

There is no minimum for a driver in a sufficiently large baffle. For narrow baffles one would choose a large driver to have enough sensitivity left after linearizing the 6dB per octave rolloff.

I have wondered about this too. A lot of smaller drivers (esp with shielded magnets) have very little room for the sound t get through the basket. I suppose this could be good if you don't have a very diffuse surface behind the speaker.
