Default Speaker Wire Types?

Is there a ligitimate difference between THX and non-THX speaker wire?

I'm beginning to lay out my new theater-room, most likely will go with high-end equipment (Lexicon processor, pre-wiring for 7.1 someday, etc.).

I've been trying to find 12-guage wire in bulk on E-Bay, but most everything seems to be non-THX and THX 14-guage wire. Is this because that is the recommended stuff?

So, will I benefit sonically from the so-called THX wire or will I be wasting my money? And, will 14-guage be sufficient for 40-foot runs?

BTW: I never once saw an ad for 12-guage THX wire, whether that means anything or not!

Personally I'd use 12 gauge for 40' runs.

It doesn't surprise me that someone would invent the notion of THX speaker wire. It's simply another attempt to get as much as possible from the consumer's wallet. Don't fall for it.

Frank, typical Fig-8 wire is quite inductive.
I use 10 pair and 20 pair indoor telephone cable and find it to be low inductance (at the expese of shunt capacitance) and sonically pleasing.

Eric.
