Default I made some more curved speakers :)

Hello,

I made some more curved speakers. I really like the little curved speakers I made last year even though they are slightly scruffy , so thought I make some more.

I've used Peerless 830845s in sealed enclosures of circa 65L.

I skinned an MDF skeleton with bendy MDF and layered up... resin painted onto the bendy MDF, dry sand, layers of fibreglass, sand and fibreglass resin mixture, more fibreglass, fillite and resin (fillite is hollow glass beads) to about 1 1/2 inches thick on the sides. The back panel is covered with layers of fibreglass and fillite resin misture and ther front baffle is 50mm MDF and fibreglass layers. The inside is coated with 1cm felt and hollowfill, then stuffed lightly with more hollowfill. They are pretty solid and weigh a lot!

The drivers sit quite tight on gaskets of very soft rubber.

I can't feel any resonance problems at any particular frequency from the cabinets and they do sound good Tight solid bass, as you'd expect and I hoped for.

The finish isn't err, quite finished yet but I'm too busy listening to them to do anything more at the moment

Definitely one of the best I've seen. Classy shape and the choice of veneer with black is nice.

How are you gonna finish them?
I love the way that they look now except for the visible screws.

Are the black bits about to be veneered as well? I love the way that they look now (except for the visible screws).

Thank you very much all

I think I'll finish them by bonding a thin layer of MDF or similar to the front and top which I'll have painted satin black. I'm half tempted to use gloss black but I think satin would be a better contrast with the glossy finish on the veneer.

The silver screws will be going soon I want to use rawlnuts http://www.tool-up.co.uk/shop/diy/scan/se=7415/sf=cat but need to try them out on something first as I've never used them before - if they don't work I'll just use black socket cap screws.

Nope, it isn't difficult at all Everything I've used is pretty easy to work with although the resin doesn't smell that nice . The hardest thing was getting the veneer to stick properly using hot melt glue because the veneer wasn't totally flat. I'm really good at ironing now
