That ribbon will only be safe crossed above about 7k, no good with the M11, you are just strectching the M11's too far, good as they are. 3k, maybe 4k max is best with them.
I used the 80mm faceplate Peerless tweeter in "Blackwood", quite nice !! |

I have a pair put aside for future use.
Just because you can't hear anywhere near 20KHZ anymore, doesn't mean that you can't hear the effects of much wider bandwidth audio. Extending amplifier bandwidth way past the usual 100KHZ (if you are lucky) means that the higher harmonics are present.(sometimes up to the 8th harmonic) Recent higher quality audio I.C.s usually have a bandwidth exceeding 10MHZ.This contributes to the ability to not only differentiate between different musical instruments (and female voices) but also hear the "air" between them, and a bigger soundstage. I read a very interesting explanation recently by a well respected British audio designer. SandyK |

I have actually used a pair. and yes they do give a rather nice top end sense. The problem with them is the darn x-o point. I used them above some old Kef T15's which are 38mm sort of tweeters

There is a very interesting explanation about wide bandwidth audio at the attached link. Post no.10
I hope that Graham doesn't mind me mentioning his explanation! BTW, his products get some pretty damn good reviews too. SandyK http://rockgrotto.proboards39.com/in...3226796&page=1 |

OK I will drive the missus crazy and hide a few away until I get a rainy day with more money in my pocket.
Many thanx for every-ones input, but for the current project i guess I will just follow the recipe I was given and build a set of boring closed boxes.

Certainly i think I hear a difference between a tweeter that rolls off above 15k and one that doesn't, the T15 was probably rolling off around 12k which is why I added the ribbons. only paid $25 each for them :-). I use low capacitance cables (braided Cat5e) on my main speakers, and again, when I put then in, I could swear there was difference from the heavy gauge stuff I had in before.
But lets not discuss this too much , it can get a bit hectic ;-))) |

Hi All.
Saw these tweeters also, and have a pair on hold for me. I am thinking of using them as replacements in my homebrew TL's., changing the Celestions to these ribbons. At present, the speaker compliment consists of: KEF B139 Bass KEF B110 Mid KEF T27 High CELESTION HF 2000 (super high) The crossover point is 12K. Would it be better to lower the crossover point, or leave as is? Sorry to ask simple questions, but my experience with speaker building is limited. Regards, George. |
