Default programs compatible with Vista OS?

I have not tried it myself, but I have had reports from people running Basta! under Vista and that it worked just fine.

I recently moved over to Vista and have to say I'm impressed in some areas and disgusted with others. It can be made to be responsive and less overly zealous with a bit of work though.

Software that works on Vista really depends on whether your using the 64 or 32bit edition. If its 64 then forget about it. I couldn't get LspCAD, ARTA or LEAP to work on that, even with compatibility 'fixes'. If you've got the 32bit version then these all work fine with the exception of LEAP which must be run under winXP compatibility mode, otherwise it crashes out when using the 3D modeller.
My real issue with Vista is that most of the PC XO and DRC stuff doesn't work on it. Soundcard manufacturer support is also ropey at best as they initially struggle to come to terms with the new requirements. My Creative X-Fi Elite Pro has half the features missing and a super dumbed down mixer interface rendering it virtually useless for PCXO use. I also understand that many pro card such as some models from RME and Lynx also have either no support, flakey performance or reduce functionality.

Overall my advice would be to stick with XP for another 6 months. At that time I'm better we see hardware and driver combinations appearing that are specifically geared for Vista use.
