Default bookshelf to floorstander

hi, i have a bookshelf speaker and thinking of removing the driver and crossover and build the floorstander cabinet, is it that way to do it? or i have to fine tune the crossover to work for froorstander cabinet...... need your idea.

Hi,
So you basically just want to put the woofer in a larger box? I don't think the crossover would need to changed, unless it affects the low frequencies in some way.

Assuming that it's a 2-way loudspeaker, I'd make it so the front is wider as well, to give the mid-bass a fuller tone.

how would you find out what capacity enclosure you would need? its not easy to find the parameters for commercial loudspeakers (im thinking of doing this with my B&W 601's)

There is a small possibility the result could be worse, if the bookshelf size is already optimised. You need to measure the parameters really.

I would NOT widen the cabinet. In order for the crossover to work the same the external width must be maintained.

I'm guessing the baffle step would only be around 200Hz ~ 800Hz, well below the likely crossover frequency if it's 2-way. And if abiedoodles wants a "bigger sound" then IMO the option of a wider baffle shouldn't be overlooked.

The crossover might already have BSC implemented in addition to the xo point filtering. Long shot I know but you can never make blanket statements.

Hi,

Vented box ?

If so then using the same vent in a bigger box is a starting point.

If the bass ends up too overdamped, start filling the box with sand.

iv thought about making floorstanders from bookshelf speakers and found it was generaly pointless.

you could see if the same bass driver is used in a floorstander - if so you can copy it and if not you have to ask yourself is it because the driver is not suited to a floorstanding design.

id say its doutful you would have to change or adjust the crossover network and id recomend you keep the width the same. id exdend the depth to give you a deeper fuller sound, make the box heavy and wack some floorspikes on it.
