Well currently I plan on making some new two-way speakers for my stereo system. After listening to a friend system at school I decided to use planar-magnetic tweeters. Now I like my speakers to not only sound good but for the speaker drivers to match.
The specific tweeter I plan on using (though it isn't set in stone) is the Dayton PT2B-8 (it was the one that my friend uses so I know I like the way it sounds). Does anyone know of an affordable planar midrange/woofer that would work well with it?
I am willing to change the tweeter I am using so long as it is still low cost.

You might want to take a look at the Bohlender Graebener (aka BG Corp) transducers at Parts Express:

You need a standard woofer (not a planar, aka ribon). What idea do you have in mind?
Zaph has published some very useful tests of planar and ribbon tweeters here: http://www.zaphaudio.com/nondomes/. Of the ones he tested he liked the Bohlender Graebener Neo3 PDR most. The rest of nondome tweeters had relatively high distortion at lower frequencies which would force you to use a higher crossover point. This in turn suggests a smaller woofer that has a relatvely high crossover point and careful crossover design. Zaph also documents this issue here: http://www.zaphaudio.com/Givler1.html
The Soundon audio maybe is a good choose for you.
