I decided to try out the effect of resistors in series with my Peerless 831857 woofer.
I used 0.5 ohm and 1.0 ohm. I didn't try larger resistors because I don't like to loose too much power in the resistor. Note that the difference when the resistor went up from 0.5 to 1.0 ohm was not so great . driver : Peerless 831857 ( run in for 10 hours at 30 Hz ) Rdc = 5.6 ohms. Fs 32.6 Hz Measurement made at one end of woofer terminal and free end of resistor. R in series Qms Qes Qts 0 ohms 4.92 0.76 0.66 0.5 ohms 5.41 0.88 0.76 1.0 ohms 5.26 0.92 0.78 So looks like 1 ohm is the best option for increasing Q for use in an open baffle. Possibly there will be no audible difference between 0.5 ohm and 1.0 ohm resistors(?). Can anyone run a simulation in a U frame 14x14x20 inches ? My memory is short. I can't remember what software is available that can do this. Can someone jog my memory ? Thanks.
