Default Help needed in making cinema speakers!!! noob!

hi,

just started out making subwoofer enclosures etc which is pretty noob anyone can do it.
im currently starting a project to make 2 wall mounted cinema speakers.

these speakers are my inspiration and what i want mine to look like at the end:

Click the image to open in full size.

I will watch mostly tv shows and movies with these and not any music but they should be ok enough to listen to music.

this is the
mid/bass drivers
im hoping to use:

this is the tweeters im hoping to use.

These speakers are going into a small room thats why theyre going to be small bookshelf type speakers.

i want to have the 2 tweeters and the 2 mid/bass drivers arranged like in that above shown speakers.

here are my problems.
-I need to know how i can wire them so that i get ONE binding post input on the back of the speakers to use with my av amplifier.
-I need to know whats the wiring inside each of the speakers so i can also got a 4ohm impedance from each speaker when done.

Also any other tips or general help would be appreciated.

thanks in advance.

cheers

I hope you are talking about surround speakers only?

Those speakers in the picture are most likely dipole surround speakers.I have dipoles in the center back(6th channel) .But I do not see any point in using them in other surround channels with dolby digital etc.Specially because the cost of the drivers ir doubled.

If you only like their looks, the other pair of drivers can be ofcourse left away.

You also need to know in what size box the mid-bas drivers sound best.To calculate this, you need the drivers parameters.

P.S. don't get offended, but making a good subwoofer is not so easy. But if you make the walls very solid and stong you are propably halfway there..

yes, those are dipole speakers, never realised what that meant.

would it be possible to wire up those 4 drivers (mids and tweeters) to make it a 4 ohms speaker. Can someone show me the wiring, would i need to get a crossover?? is it necessary.

and also i should have clarified, i made subwoofer enclosures for cars, that were in a passive sealed box with fixed measurements.

any help on the wiring would be appreciated.

These are similar to the D4 surrounds I purchased as a kit which can be wired dipole or bipole. Specs and construction can be seen from their web page but no details of the crossover or cabinet volumes.

The D4 has a relatively simple crossover on the tweeter side only. The mid/woofers are rated at 8 ohms impedance but drivers are wired in parallel so impedance is around 4 ohms.

The drivers you plan to use are already rated at 4 ohms so wiring in parallel would give you around 2 ohms which could present quite a load for most amps. see http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/resistan.htm

Don't know if that helps you or not.

I was misled by the thread subject line too. The term "cinema speaker" means something entirely different to me

OMG WOOAH THATS WHAT I WANT!! lol joking.

cinema speakers probably not then. surround speakers yes.

with those speakers someone said ill get a end impedance of 2 ohms, is that a problem for a 8 ohm requiring amplifier??

will 4 ohm speakers present a problem for a the 8ohm amp aswell?

2 ohm on a 8 ohm amp ? Yeah, if the amp has a good protection circuit it will kick in and mute, otherwise you'll get smoke.

Hi,

You seem to have no idea what you are doing ..........

Unknown, cheap and presumably nasty, unmeasured drivers,
put in boxes that may or may not suitable, with a poorly designed
crossover that takes no account of the drivers is a recipe for a
complete waste of time.

The driver layout is not suitable for front left and rights in 2.1 system.

however if the idea still appeals, go to richer sounds :

http://www.richersounds.com/showprod...d=BUSH-SPK2025

Buy two pairs of these for £20 and use all the bits in a cabinet
shaped as you've shown, it has a decent chance of working.
Wire the two sets of drivers in parallel. Each cabinet will be 4 ohm.
Re-use the grills, grill mountings, input cups etc ...

If an amplifier says it needs 8ohm speakers, it does.

/sreten.

(might buy a pair myself this weekend to see what is in them,
richer specials are my best source of cheap drivers and speaker
sundry bits such as grilles, binding posts etc.)

sreten, that's a good idea. And cheap too.Even the speaker grilles look useable.

I would go that way instead of randomly ordering some unknown drivers.
